FAQs

Tracking & Telematics

Telematics is a powerful technology that revolutionises how you manage your business's valuable assets. This comprehensive FAQ section dives deep into the world of telematics, answering some of the most common questions.

Vehicle tracking (also known as GPS fleet tracking or telematics), is a technology that uses a combination of tools to monitor the location and status of vehicles. It allows you to allow you to monitor the location of your businesses cars, vans or HGVs to increase safety and give businesses greater control over where their employees are.

Vehicle tracking systems require a GPS device to be attached to your vehicle, the devices are powered by your vehicle’s battery and can communicate with tracking software through SIM cards.

We offer a number of different tracking devices, and our team can help you to understand the best ones for you. Some of these devices will require professional installation, but some can be fitted by you.

Speak to one of our advisors to find the best option for you and we’ll give you full instructions on how to install your device.

Yes, both Kinesis and Kinesis Pro are available on an app and is ideal for business owners and fleet managers who are always on the move. Keep track of your vehicles and monitor your driver’s performance from wherever you are.

If you’re not sure which telematics products you hold with us, speak to a member of our team.

If you’re new to using telematics, the Kinesis platform will make life straightforward for you, delivering a range of practical features and insights. Kinesis’s USP is that it’s a tile-based system, designed to be intuitive and user-friendly.

The platform is easy to navigate, and it’s simple to set up alerts and scheduled reports. This automatically generates all the essential data you need on a regular basis,  so there’s no need to constantly dive into the platform to retrieve information.

If you want to become more actively involved with your data, and have more complex requirements from your telematics system, we’d suggest Kinesis Pro as a platform choice. Kinesis Pro’s detailed USPs include Custom Alerts, Reports, Dashboards, and a User Hierarchy, enabling the customer to get granular with their data, tailoring the platform to their specific needs.

Don’t worry! We can help you transition your fleet over from your previous provider, staggering the rollout to align with contract ends and vehicle turnover.

We’ll arrange for any third party equipment to be removed when we install our new equipment, so your vehicles only need to be visited once.

We also offer self-install options that can easily be incorporated at your convenience.

Investing in Tracking Telematics will bring returns. The data that’s generated provides insights that save time and money as you move forward. For example, driver performance data will identify if any vehicles record excess idling.

Cutting down on idling alone will save money but also if the vehicles are constantly idling, then this could suggest a utilisation issue with the fleet. If customers can find ways to better utilise their fleet, they can increase their daily revenue.

Although Asset trackers don’t provide continual live tracking, they do offer a GPS location when they report in. The advantage here is that the route is tracked while the internal battery is conserved, so the device can last for months without battery replacement.

Limiting reports to a few times per day also give the devices an additional layer of security. Potential thieves are unable to scan for a power source or GPS signal as easily as they could with a conventional hardwire device.

These devices have a set wakeup configuration. It isn’t possible to do a forced wake up and report into the software. This means that no external forces can tamper with your device and use force to discover where the device is installed.

Asset trackers can be used in different scenarios:

As a secondary device to a conventional vehicle tracker. The vehicle tracker provides all the live tracking data while the asset tracker provides backup in case the vehicle is lost or misplaced.

For use where having a conventional tracker isn’t possible, such as in a nonpowered asset, for example.

Highlighting the Alert functions helps you to keep track of which assets have (and haven’t) been returned to base.

This could be useful if you’re expecting an asset to be returned to the depot at the end of the day, as you can receive an alert on both entry and exit.

If you don’t receive an alert that the device has entered the depot Geofence that day, you’ll know a device has potentially gone missing, or is delayed in transit.

FAQs

Utilities

As Enerswitch can act as your in-house utility management specialists, we're here to help with some of the most common queries you may have. We offer a range of bespoke utility management services to businesses of all sizes, and would be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

An energy broker like Enerswitch can help secure the best value contract for your business by comparing offers from a wide range of suppliers, which can be a time consuming process for a client. Brokers can quite often negotiate more competitive offers than are available by going direct to a supplier.

When choosing to work with Enerswitch, we would deal with your account queries direct with suppliers to ensure clients are free to work within their own business.

In addition to this, a broker can provide a range of other services such as bill validation, data analysis and energy management services, site works & metering.

Fixed: A fixed energy contract means the price you pay for your energy usually won’t change for the duration of the contract, which is usually between 1-3 years. There are some fixed contracts where some of the non-energy costs are reconcilable or pass through — these need to be taken into account when selecting a contract type.

Flexible: In contrast, a flexible energy contract allows you to take advantage of wholesale price movements in order to buy gas and electricity at a more optimum time. Please note that the markets do rise as well as fall so it is not guaranteed that a better price can be obtained on flexible contracts.

Green: Purchasing green energy can vary in price but is guaranteed to be sourced from renewable sources, with some suppliers providing a supply which has produced zero carbon emissions.

Opting for green energy not only helps to reduce the carbon footprint of your business but can also help to improve brand image and retain environmentally conscious customers making it a valuable marketing tool.

EV Chargers

At Enerswitch, we understand that simplifying your business utility needs is essential for success. That’s why we’re committed to providing a comprehensive and reliable solution for all aspects of your electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Our goal is to eliminate the complexities of EV charging, empowering businesses to adopt electric mobility with greater ease and efficiency.

The biggest advantage of EVs (electric vehicles) is the positive impact on our environment. EVs have no tailpipe, so they don’t emit any exhaust gases.

More areas are introducing Clean Air Zones, which charges polluting vehicles when entering certain areas. EVs are exempt from these charges, as well as road tax.

There are fewer mechanical components in an EV compared to petrol and diesel vehicles, often resulting in lower servicing and maintenance costs.

By 2030, the UK government will end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans. By investing now, you’re getting ahead of the curve and future-proofing your organisation/home.

There are numerous benefits to home car charging, including:

  • Cost efficiency – as the home charging points use your own electricity supply, there’s no additional costs.
  • Safety – Charging points are weatherproof, wired directly to your fuse board and are designed with overload protection for added safety.
  • Convenience – Gone are the days of queuing at public charging points, you can top up your battery any time at home. By charging overnight, you’ll also have peace of mind knowing you’ll always have a full battery in the morning.

Most UK homes run off a single-phase power supply, which supports 7kW chargers, so these are the most common choice for home users.

22kW chargers are also available which are 3 times faster than the 7kW units, however they require a three-phase electrical set up. If you have a single-phase power supply you will not be able to have a 22kW charger installed as the power supply is not strong enough.

As a general rule (based on a 7kW home charger), you can get up to 20 miles from each hour of charging for a small EV.

It’s important to note that this is dependent on the make and model of the EV, the type of charger you have and the speed you drive at.

To give you an example, the Tesla Model 3 has a range of 360 miles before recharge, whereas the Nissan Leaf has a lower range of 168 miles.

Although EVs are currently more expensive to buy than petrol and diesel vehicles, it’s important to consider the total cost of ownership (TCO), which takes into account the costs of using and maintaining the vehicle.

EVs are significantly cheaper to run than their petrol and diesel equivalents, even when considering the increases in electricity costs. The Energy Saving Trust found that fuel costs are often three to four times more expensive than travelling the same distance via electric.

In addition to this, you aren’t currently required to pay road tax and if you drive within ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zones) or CAZ (Clean Air Zones), EVs pay no charges (while diesel vehicles pay the most!).

The UK government are only likely to increase the cost of ownership and use of petrol and diesel vehicles in the future, making an EV a sound investment for both financial and environmental reasons.

To charge your EV from empty to full takes on average 8 hours when using a typical 7kWh charger – however this depends on the size of your vehicle battery and the power strength of the charging point.

Although this is a long time, most EV drivers take the ‘little and often’ approach to charging, topping up their battery whenever the car is stationary and a charge point is available. This could be at home, your place of work, or a 10 minute pitstop during a journey. If a full charge is required, EV drivers often schedule this for overnight (if they have a charge point at home) for convenience.
